Scentwork

Scentwork, also known as nosework, is a fun and interactive experience for you and your dog. Whether you just want to have fun, or if you are gearing up to step into the competition world, these classes will provide you with the tools necessary to succeed. Our foundation class begins with an introduction to odor. At this level, teams will develop skills that will help them build the value of rewards, timing of rewards, building criteria, and understanding the behavioral loop. Teams will progress at the pace of each individual dog/handler and will advance through the scentwork levels while staying in the same class (day/time) for each 6 week session, unless otherwise directed by the instructor. This ensures the continuity of the learning process.

CRATES ARE MANDATORY FOR ALL DOGS IN SCENT CLASSES.

If you have questions about what class to register for, please email Janet Wyatt at: snifferdogs07@gmail.com

*Please note that there is a $25 charge for canceling your class registration. When we hold a spot for you in class, we incur the cost of teaching the class as well as administrative costs. Thank you for understanding.

UNIT 1 A & B
DEVELOPING THE TEAM

In this foundation unit, teams will learn about timing, rewards and painting the scentwork picture. Teams will be introduced to the odors used in both AKC and UKC trials. We will begin to build drive and commitment to odor, and begin to understand the chain of behavior that will lead to the final trained indication. This is a 6-week session and upon completion, teams will move right into DEVELOPING THE TEAM UNIT 1B.
