Joining the Sarasota Obedience Training Club (SOTC) means becoming part of a vibrant, supportive community of dog lovers dedicated to training, teamwork and responsible dog ownership. Whether you’re new to dog sports or a seasoned competitor, SOTC offers a place for you and your canine partner to learn, grow and have fun.
You don’t need to compete in dog sports to join—just bring your love for dogs and a willingness to participate.

A Working Club
SOTC is a member‑driven organization, and every member plays a role in keeping the club strong. All members contribute 16 volunteer hours per year, supporting areas such as:
- Class instruction and assistance
- Trial and event staffing
- Facility maintenance
- Administrative and organizational tasks
What We Offer
Members can participate in a wide range of training programs and SOTC is proud to be affiliated with both the American Kennel Club (AKC) and the United Kennel Club (UKC), hosting competitive trials throughout the year.
Ready to Join?
Step 1: Complete your Application
Once your online application is received, the Membership Coordinator will contact you to begin the process. Each applicant is paired with a mentor—an experienced SOTC member who will serve as your guide, answer questions and help you navigate club activities.
Step 2: Complete Membership Requirements
Before your application can be submitted for a membership vote, you’ll need to complete the following:
- Volunteer Hours
Contribute 4 volunteer hours across 3 different club‑sponsored activities. Household memberships require 7 volunteer hours. Volunteer opportunities vary throughout the year and may include: Trial setup and stewarding; Building and equipment upkeep; Assisting with teaching classes; Committee work or special projects - Attend Membership Meetings
Attend three (3) SOTC membership meetings. Meetings are held on the 2nd Wednesday of each month, alternating between Zoom and on‑site. Applicants are introduced during these meetings through a formal “reading”. - Membership Vote
Once all requirements are completed, your application will be presented to the membership for a vote. Applicants must complete all membership requirements within six months of the date their application is received.
